How can I start my own event planning business?

February 7, 2010 - 10:45 am 2 Comments

I already have done some event planning for the nonprofit I work for, but am interested in branching off and starting my own wedding & event planning company. What is the best way to do this?

You can start by having a steady source of income so that you don’t have to rely on your business for food and rent (at least at first).

If you’ve got access to some money, the best way to get yourself out there is to advertise.

Cheap ways are flyers (stick them under the windshields of cars at wedding shops), ads in local circulars or newspapers, etc.

Do some research into the best places to hold events, furniture & equipment rentals, caterering, etc. so that you can maximize profits while still beating the competition on price (without skimping).

Like most things, it can be hard to get started, and you aren’t guaranteed anything - but if it is something you like to do, then go for it!

How much would a ticket cost if driving with out a license?

February 7, 2010 - 10:45 am 1 Comment

I was in a car accident it was not my fault but i got a ticket because driving with out a license. How much would it be here in California?

That will depend on what district you got the ticket in. Best bet is to call the phone number on your ticket and ask. They’re really the only people who can provide you with that information.

What are good theatre games for high school?

February 7, 2010 - 10:45 am 2 Comments

well i have to have a theatre game ready that hasn’t been played before. and not one of the ones on the first website that comes up when you search on google. and it has to be FUN. So if anyone can help me, that would be super awesome. if anyone has some original ideas, let me know. thanks!

I’m not sure what you’re counting as already existing games, as in many cases a lot of the same have been made up in completely unrelated instances, but here are a couple of my favorites that aren’t too widely known.

"Why Are You Late?" - There’s three people participating at once. Two people are sitting on the stage in chairs facing each other. One is "the boss" and the other is "the employee". The third person will stand in front of the "employee" (behind the boss’s back). The "boss" will prompt with "Why are you late?"
The third person will start to mime out actions, and the "employee" will say whatever the person is miming, or rather whatever they can make from it, to form a story.
The goal is on the spot improv, and trying to make the most ridiculous things sound convincing. The boss cuts in whenever they feel it’s gone on enough, and decides whether or not to fire the employee.

"Family Of Serious" - it’s much like "Honey, I Love You" but has its own air. Everyone stands in a circle, and says "We are the family of serious. We do not laugh, we do not smile."
The group leader will start off by saying "Sister/Brother (name of someone in the circle, eg. John) Please perform for us (an action, eg. the dance of the hukkawukka tribe, or the art of laying an egg)"
John will then have to perform said action around the circle, and anyone who laughs is out. Then John will go back to his spot, and everyone repeats "we are the family of serious. We do not laugh, we do not smile." Then John will say "Sister/Brother (name), please perform for us…" and so forth, until everyone is out. It’s a test of self control in the form of not laughing.

Hope this helped!

What program allows me to use a single list of events for multiple calendars?

February 7, 2010 - 10:45 am 2 Comments

I wish to create several different calendars, all with the same events. As this is for an organisation, we have a large number of events, and I don’t want to insert the same events for each of the calendars. Is there any software (Microsoft Publisher?) or online program that allows you to create a list of events which can be automatically inserted into multiple calendar templates?

KeepandShare.com has an online calendar that does a great job of this. Accounts are free. Depending on whether you want to control access by multiple folks you could create multiple accounts.

But, more simply, since each account includes 9 separate calendars, you could create your event calendar "1", and then use KeepandShare’s ‘overlay’ feature to bring that Calendar1 into your Calendar2, into Calendar3, calendar4 etc. Then you can do any customization in cal2,3,4 you like without changing cal1, and any changes you make to cal1 are instantly picked up by cal2,3,4.

Powerful sharing controls and beautiful PDF printing round out the picture.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive outdoor venue for a wedding reception?

February 2, 2010 - 6:34 pm 2 Comments

I’m getting married in June, and I’m looking for a nice, inexpensive outdoor reception venue in Chicago. There are an expected 150-200 people, so please be mindful when answering. I also have a DJ, and would like to have drinks served, so I would also like any permit information, if needed. Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Lincoln Park Zoo.. Garfield Park.. or I think you can rent out the planetarium and they have outdoor areas, as well as the Norderbert Nature Museum.

I don’t know chicago, but I would look into these places, they can give you some guidance.

What is the cost of a tour of Buckingham Palace?

February 2, 2010 - 6:33 pm 5 Comments

We, 2 friends and I, are planning a visit to England to see some Royal residential sights. How much should we expect to pay for a tour of the palace, of no longer than say 2 hours? Is there a kiosk where we can buy some refreshments and sandwiches or must we pack our own and may we wear our Super Hero costumes or is there some kind of dress code for the establishment? Your help is appreciated.

!000 dollars for 17 minutes.

How much is a speeding ticket in Indiana?

February 2, 2010 - 6:33 pm 5 Comments

I got a speeding ticket today and I also got another ticket for not having my license with me. I was going 55 in a 40 mph zone. So about how much would I pay?

it varies from state to state but with a plus 15 mph speeding ticket and one for having no license with you, i’d guess you’re looking at several hundred bucks, my guess is $335. Just a guess. Be thankful–in some states they would probably tow your vehicle.

What are some good and respectable theatre internships for the summer of 2010?

February 2, 2010 - 6:33 pm 1 Comment

I am a college student looking for an internship with a theatre this summer. Location does not really matter. Something inexpensive, or stipends/scholarships available would be nice. Any suggestions, something you have done or know someone who has done it would be best. I am intersted in actng, but the theatre itself is something I really love.

schools.medianewsonline.com - I found such internship info here. It has lots of internships, job openings and scolarships for college students.
