Who is liable for my unpaid parking tickets if my car has been sold to a junkyard?
I have two unpaid parking tickets. I read that if I’ve sold my car, the new owner is responsible for the unpaid parking tickets.
However, I’ve sold the car to a junkyard, and it has been scrapped for parts.
Should I still pay the tickets at this point? Or should I send in the illegal parking notices with my change-of-ownership to the DMV?
Well it depends, did you get the tickets before you sold it?, if so then you are responsible, but if you sold it and the junkyard got the tickets then you are still probably responsible, junk yards have a bad habit of not changing the ownership and parking anywhere not caring because it’s not in their name, you were supposed to file the release of liability, with DMV, when you sold it, to prove the tickets are not yours if you didn’t you have to pay them or they will come and lock your current car now or later they will lock your car until you pay, and if you don’t pay now the fines will grow, and if you can’t pay they take your car and you probably still have to pay, with interest growing. And just because you sold it as junk to the junk yard doesn’t necesaryly mean they junked it or sold parts, 98 percent of the time if they can repair it they sell it for more money
