What type of musician? Classical soloist? Rock/pop/etc group?

You need to book plenty of gigs, pay for transportation (plane/cabs/vans/bus/etc), and make enough money to earn back the cost of the tour at least.
If you want a sponsor, you need to seem potentially profitable and most likely this will require some profitable fan base (teenage girls, for instance). First, though, you need to actually get the attention of the company you want to sponsor you (or the attention of a company in the first place).

I’d suggest you first start with creating music and getting people to listen and like it. You need to be able to hold steady gigs after that. That’s the first bridge to cross.

What is the cost of a tour of Buckingham Palace?

February 2, 2010 - 6:33 pm 5 Comments

We, 2 friends and I, are planning a visit to England to see some Royal residential sights. How much should we expect to pay for a tour of the palace, of no longer than say 2 hours? Is there a kiosk where we can buy some refreshments and sandwiches or must we pack our own and may we wear our Super Hero costumes or is there some kind of dress code for the establishment? Your help is appreciated.

!000 dollars for 17 minutes.

What is the best European tour group for a 35 year old female?

January 20, 2010 - 7:40 am 1 Comment

I’m planning a 2-3 week European vacation as a graduation gift for myself in middle May/early June. I enjoy the historical aspects of Europe and would feel most safe with an escorted tour. That being said, I do not want to sign up for a tour with all elderly people or 18 year olds looking to get drunk. Any suggestions on a European tour for a single 35 year old female? Also, what is the difference between first-class and budget in escorted tours?

Kiley,

I have only ever been with a youth tour group, but when I went with them the guide talked a few times about how he had taken individual tours with older people, and I bet he would do it again on request. I don’t know how other tours are, but I had a great time on his.

At the very least, you could write to him and see what he has to say. Couldn’t hurt, anyway. (I hope that helps!)

How do I get travel agencies to send tour buses to my restaurant?

December 17, 2009 - 8:51 pm 4 Comments

I’d like to get into the tour buses business with my restaurant, but I really don’t know where to start. My guess is that I need to get in touch with the travel agencies that put together the holiday packages that include meals, and make a deal with them to include my restaurant in the package. What I don’t know, is how to find out what local (Irish) travel agencies put together these packages for foreign tourists?

Search the WWW net for tour operators in Ireland and get in touch with them offering some kind of enticement for their travellers. A free starter, and free coffee. and send a sample menu.

What is the easiest way to tour the monuments and memorials in DC?

December 15, 2009 - 8:10 am 6 Comments

I’m trying to figure out the best way to tour them at night. I am also trying to figure out the best way to get there and back without walking forever from our hotel. We are staying at the Hamiton Crowne Plaza on 14th and K Sts. I know we can the Metro to Smithsonian Station and walk from there but I’m not quite sure of the easiest way to get back to the hotel. Should we walk all the way back to the metro or take a cab?

I live in DC and actually worked across the street from that hotel. You can catch the subway at McPherson Square which is about a block or two from there and ride two stops to the Smithsonian…OR you can just walk from the hotel. My money is on the latter.

If you catch the train at McPherson square you can go to Smithsonian and come out in the middle of the National Mall, but you now have an issue of doubling back. You can come out of the train and either head towards the Capitol which is a mile or so away or turn and head towards the Washington Monument. The problem with the Capitol is that there really isn’t anything else that way at night b/c the museums close around 5. If you head toward the monument, then you can take pics there, walk down the hill to the WWII memorial and then keep walking toward the Lincoln Memorial. You can sit down on the stairs there and rest your feet, but you have the issue of walking all the way back to the subway unless you plan on going to see the Jefferson and FDR memorials, but they aren’t really within walking distance unless you don’t mind a good long walk.

My proposal is that you can catch the subway to Smithsonian Station and make sure you get out at the mall exit. Then see the Wash Monument, WWII and Lincoln Memorial and then take a few minutes to rest your feet and walk back to your hotel. If you head up 17th Street from the Lincoln Memorial then you’ll run right into Pennsylvania Ave and The White House where you can get some more pics and about four blocks up from there is your hotel.
