I’m really interested in band photography, so I was wondering, how could I get a photo pass for concerts?
before you try to do that, shoot local shows first. there usually aren’t any camera regulations, and you really get awesome practice since lighting is absolutely terrible. haha. :]
then, the main way to go about getting a photo pass is to work with a publication. i.e. newspaper, magazine, webzine. this isn’t always easy, especially when you’re young and have no previous experience.
the BEST way to go about it, since i’m assuming you’re a teenager like me, is to cheat. remember how i said you should shoot local shows first? while you’re there, NETWORK LIKE CRAZY. make simple business cards to hand out to bands, etc etc. eventually, some of these bands are going to end up opening for a national act that comes to your city. you can then simply ask the local band to get you a photo pass, they should probably agree since you kindly took photos of them at their little show, aaand you’re in. :] haha. i’ve gotten three photo passes this way, so it definitely does work.
btw, know your photo pit rules.
it’s usually first 3 songs, no flash. always ask to make sure though.
you can email me if you have other questions!

Credentialed press photographers usually get their venue passes from their assignment or photo editors a few days before the shoot.
You may want to visit the venue and talk to the production manager and work a deal with them to provide images for their website. Just take along some samples of your other concert work and a competitive fee structure that includes other events as well as shots they can use for promoting their venue over others in the city.
