What kind of digitial camera should i get for quality pictures at concerts?

Ok, I am looking for a digitial camera that has a really good zoom and has the flash features to take really good pictures at concerts when the lights from teh show are constantly changing. What kind of camera should I look for? How many megapixles, etc?

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

  2. ANY FLASH is worthless at concerts. Flash only works up to 20 feet AT BEST with the best flash you can buy. Forget that notion of amazing concert photos with a Digital SLR with FLASH. Won’t happen.

You are more likely to take great concert photos with a high end Digital SLR (like the canon XSi) and a long zoom. Choose concerts that are well lit, and buy front row seats if you want the best pictures. Anything else will yield less than perfect pictures. (and forget the FLASH issue altogether).

  3. When buying a digital camera, you should think about this. Almost all digital cameras will get you a good picture. Thus, the most important thing are narrowing it down to your specific needs. For example, if you needed a high zoom camera, you would look for specific high zoom cameras like the Panasonic tz-5 or zs-3. Or, if you are on a budget, look for a high quality but relatively cheap camera like the Panasonic fx-500 (about 180 dollars on amazon) or a canon powershot SD 890 is.
When you have decided what you think is the best category for you, you should do some research online but keep in mind that you should not completely narrow it down just from what other people are saying. You should also go into your local technology store like Best Buy and get a feel for the camera yourself. Feel it in your hands, get a hang for the controls, see the pictures it takes, that sort of thing. After all, words can only do so much. Plus, you can compare the image quality yourself and not have to rely on reviews from people like me.

I would recommend any of the major brands like canon, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, or Nikon. They generally make the best, longest lasting, and best quality cameras.

If I had to recommend a camera I would recommend one of these.
I would recommend the Panasonic tz-5. There are many reasons for this.
1: It has the highest optical zoom for any compact digital camera
2: Not only is it a high zoom camera, but it also has a respectable 9.1 megapixels.
3: It is a very strong zoom camera and is comparable to a dslr.
    4. The zoom has very good focus and can help you at a place like a concert.

For a really good video review look at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g4icsP8k...

Also, it is a relatively compact camera.

To look into more Panasonic cameras go to this link:

If you don’t like this camera i would check out the entire canon powershot line.
Especially look into the SD 880 is, SD 890 is, or the SD 970 is or SD 990 is.
    Check out their website.
Also, look at these cameras at a store.

Here is a website for the entire line of canon digital cameras (even dslr’s)

Also, in case you were confused, Panasonic is coming out with several new cameras very close to the tz5 but I would stick to the tz5 for several reasons
    1. It is proven
    2. It will be very cheap because the new ones will be expensive
    3. It is not very different from the other ones.

    Happy Shopping!

  4. I would suggest Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 9MP with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.Mega O.I.S. and Intelligent ISO and reduces the shutter release time lag.You can take good images in any situation, whether dark or light, indoors or outdoors

  5. I’m sure you want a compact digital camera to do the job. I’ll skip the long explainations everyone is giving you and get to the bottom line. The camera you wan’t doesn’t exist.

Yeah you might get some decent shots, but that’s about it.

If you want high quality pics at a concert, you’ll need a large, expensive dSLR, and hope that you can sneak that it with a high quality, large lens attached to it.

Next, you’ll need to learn how to use a dSLR.

Unless you are in the first three rows, don’t count on getting any crisp clean shots with a little point and shoot. If that camera existed, you wouldn’t see pro photographers at football games carrying around those big chunky dSLRs.

The only thing you can do is get a compact with the most optical zoom (10x) or get a megazoom that has 15x or more. They all have crap sensors regardless of brand or price so the quality will never be ‘high’
