Exploration and Experimentation

Print is everywhere in the classrooms, in homes, and in society. Children pick up on what adults, especially their parents, value. Therefore, I agree that through exploration and experimentation children writing develops and this development should take place pre-schooling. I notice that children that have writing experiences at home are motivated and emerge better writing than those who have little or no model of writing at home. Other key factors as mentioned by this article are time to talk, draw, and pretend. I once told my children that writing fiction is like telling a big lie. Most children could understand this, because who has never told a fib. Then, I allowed them to story tell this “lie” to a peer. When it was time for the final product, I allowed them to draw a picture (“a picture is worth a thousand words”). As the year past, I had fewer complaints about having nothing to write about and more students who loved to write.
