Effective Task Management For A Productive Life

Regardless of what your role is in this fast paced world, a business person or a mom, if you are not efficient in task management you will most likely always feel overwhelmed. If constantly feeling like there is never enough time to get things done, this is probably a sign that you need to get organized. If trying to get organized in order to feel less stressed about your to-do list that never ends, below you will find a plan of action consisting of a number of core principles to help you get this done.

1.) If you are feeling scatter brained because of all of the things you have to do, and it seems like when you’re at the office you’re thinking about all of the things you need to get done from home. When you are at home you are likely to think about all of the things you need to get done from your office!

If you find yourself relating, you may want to categorize your to-do list by where you need to get your tasks done from. For instance at home: list monthly expenses; at office: return messages and so on. This helps you act even when you may be low on energy to figure out what you need to do. You do not have to think about what to get done because it is already written out for you.

2.) There is a difference between actually getting your to-do list done and just staring at it with dread. A productive to-do list will state an action to get done instead of just an overall theme. For instance, if your list consists of plan a meeting, than you will probably feel overwhelmed just by looking at it. You will probably wonder where to start.

If you plan out your task list like, research budget, prepare monthly financial records, draw an outline you have chopped up your major task into small, more manageable bits. When you have a clear idea of what needs to get completed you are less likely to get side tracked.

3.) When you have a task list created, rank the items in terms of importance. When you focus your energy and time on the most important items, you will less likely have wandering thoughts going on in your mind about what you really need to be doing. This step will help increase your productivity.

Before you get going on ranking your items in terms of importance make sure you have all of the things you need to get done written down in the first place. Make a comprehensive list of all of the things you need to get done. If your list is incomplete you will find that your thoughts will often go off track. Whether you keep track of your tasks with a pen and paper, or on your computer or PDA, a comprehensive list is essential in getting through all of your needed tasks.

Remember effective task management includes action oriented tasks, as opposed to general things you need to complete. Often you will find that trial and error is an effective method in learning what works best for you. Once you have figured out an effective plan of action for effective task completion, stick to it. Implement what works best for you.
