The staging of the play can be done very sparsely. Minimal furniture, excessive darkness, and thunderous sound effects add to the already eerie atmosphere.

It depends upon what themes you want to stress. You can perform just about any play in any space. Macbeth has both indoor and outdoor locations, so you could even perform outdoors if you have a place in which sound will carry. In fact, outdoors could be very impressive. You could have Bernum woods advance upon the audience and the witches come into the the space from the audience as well. The things you need for any space are sound, light, and a place to put the audience. A front and center stage is not necessarily required. However, if you are using an unconventional space, have it checked for safety before packing people in.
References :
BA in theatre @ Bethany College, WV
