Why does only center channel of home theatre system works when watching tv?

We just set up our home theatre system and only the center channel works when watching sattelite TV. When watching a DVD, all speakers work. Can anyone tell me why? Is this the way its supposed to work?
Thanks!

Is your satalite hooked up to your home theater, if not the sound you are hearing is from the tv not the center channel. Depending on your home theater, see if you have a hook up for a sattelite tv. If not check your sattilite box to see for there is an audio output (HDMI or composite) then hook it up to your home theater HDMI or composite input. If not check you tv to see if you have an output jack (composite or RCA) then hook it up to your home theater Aux input. Read your owners manual for home theater, sattilite box and tv to see what type of connections you have. Hope this helps and enjoy.

i suspect the center channel you hear when watching sat is the tv speakers.
and i would first check if you have audio out from your sat receiver to your HT receiver.
check that you have a digital out coming from your sat receiver to your home theatre receiver.
if not , run a digital cable (optical is common on sat receivers), from the sat receiver to your HT receiver and remember to switch the input mode on your HT receiver to the correct input.
also , go into your tv menu and turn off the tv speakers, so that the sound is coming thru your surround speakers only , i find it sounds much better.

    it’s a input/output problem, easy to fix.

    hope that helped

  3. It could be a couple of things. Check and make sure that the satellite box is using the digital outputs to the receiver. If they aren’t and you are using the Red/White cables, switch over to the digital. If you are digital out of the sat box check the channels up in the higher channels, if you have an HD channel tune to that. Surround?

If yes then check the lower channels. If you don’t have surround sound then it’s because the channel is only broadcasting in stereo. Change the receiver over to a pro-logic mode.

If no, then check the surround mode on the receiver for that input and make sure it is set for Dolby Digital or DTS. Some receivers have an AFD or Auto format decoder. Try that setting.

    Good luck
