I believe the …
I believe the second commentator is John Test. He use to do a lot of that back then along with the music.
WILLPOWER.
WILLPOWER.
Anyone know who the …
Anyone know who the commentor is along side Phil Ligget for this broadcast? Sounds like Jim Nantz?
Lemond will always …
Lemond will always be my all time favorite rider.
Huh? The Tour has …
Huh? The Tour has finished with laps on the Camps Élysées since 1975. 1989 was the only year in which it ended with a time trial there.
I remember back …
I remember back when Le Tour ended on a final time trial to Paris. However, after this embarrassing loss for Fignon and the French, organizers changed the final stage from a time trial to a wannabe criterium.
I remember so …
I remember so vividly at a press conference before the final stage. Fignon: “Greg thinks he can win, but he can’t. I am much stronger in the mind and in the legs.” Really?
LeMonde would have …
LeMonde would have been even faster had he not ducked his head every couple of seconds…
But wow, it must have sucked for Fignon.
He had not trained …
He had not trained with the aero bars and decided not to change his style at the last minute.
The best finish ever
The best finish ever
I was born that …
I was born that year but… fignon, time trial with no helmet?? Everyone knows a proper helmet improves aerodynamics…
I can understand …
I can understand having that opinion.
The thing I keep thinking about though is that Im watching a presumably clean (hes tested SO much) Lance Armstrong, at 37 years of age, with not even a years worth of training, still sitting 3rd in the overall to a guy that might be the most talented cyclist ever, whos in the prime of his career.
I think theres a reasonable possibility that Lance just had more heart than anyone else in those 7 Tours.
I remember watching …
I remember watching this in High School, it made me a fan of this race. They never ended the tour with an ITT again!
Lemond was a BEAST …
Lemond was a BEAST on a bike!
5. french arrogance …
5. french arrogance. which would have eliminated the previous four.
I want to believe …
I want to believe Lance is clean, but yesterday I read that 9 out of the last 18 men to win the tour have been caught out doping. It’s just really hard for me to believe that he could win 7 tours clean if it’s that prevalent.
poor fignon, three …
poor fignon, three reasons he lost 1. no aero bars 2. double disk wheels 3. pony tail 4. lenon glasses.-oops thats four
If Fignon wanted to …
If Fignon wanted to win he would have used the same equipment as lemond
Just read a good …
Just read a good article about the effects of using PEDs. Incredible how much the enhance a rider’s natural capabilities. It is mind boggling to consider how much more impressive Lance would have been had he been able to use them. Fat chance he could ever have gotten away with it considering how rigorously he’s been hounded by the testing agencies.
He could have been …
He could have been but it’s highly unlikely as he was one of the few riders who actually called for more testing and he had to end his career early because he refused to take anything for his injuries.
They had to carry …
They had to carry their computers in them!
why so many cars …
why so many cars and bikes
I realise that but …
I realise that but how do we know LeMond wasn’t on amphetamines
Ask Bernhard Kohl. …
Ask Bernhard Kohl. He says he has been tested more than hundred times and was never tested positve but once. The doctors know how to dope just to the limit so that they don’t get caught. Anyway, how could Lance make such a good stand against all the people that have been caught? (Ullrich, Hamilton, Basso, Landis, mayo, Vinokurow…)
That’s ridiculous. …
That’s ridiculous. Were Armstron on EPO, he’d have been caught. There is now way that anyone of his stature, who has been tested so much could avoid a positive test for EPO. The facts are that Armstrong has never even had a suspect test and there is zero evidence that he has ever taken anything.
