Back Country Safety Tips
Whether you are heading into the wilderness for a hunting, fishing or camping trip or just going for a day hike, the last thing you might be thinking of is communications.
Hunter will remember to clean their rifles and check to see if their hunting scopes are in working order, but in reality, communications should be the first thing on their minds. Life and death situations can come at you quickly and unexpectedly in the back country. A few tips:
1) Always leave details about your wilderness trip with family or friends. Provide as much information about your trip as possible; your destination, route, return time, etc.
2) Don’t go alone! Many people have survived back country situations because they had a companion.
3) Take your cell phone along for emergencies. You may not have coverage where you are headed, but you might be surprised and getting updated weather information could be critical.
